Season Five has been a crazy, wild ride, but it’s finally come to a close. Thankfully, we end with a bang.
This week, we discuss the crazy adventures of our old webmaster, back when our show was a Nintendo Revolution podcast…boy, how times have changed. “Whatcha’ been Watchin’?” is a backlog of “Commando”, “The Beat that My Heart Skipped”, and “Kung Fu Hustle”. Moving on to games, we go on a rollercoaster ride from the giddy heights of Super Stardust HD Solo, down to the aggravating lows of installing the MGO beta. Then we top it off with our announcement of the (two!) winners of the Play it Loud: Season Five contest, and give you an idea of what to expect when Play it Loud: In Spaaaaaaaace! drops on May 20th.

PIL: Less is More
As the finale of Season 5 draws ever closer, you’d naturally assume we’d become retrospective and become more focused.
Wrong!
In one of our rare, under-an-hour episodes, we manage to cover an unusually diverse — even for us — range of titles, such as our developing love of triple-threat Zooey Deschanel, Play it Loud’s unexpected use in a Viennese techno anthem, Bollywood films, Orangina, and the mind-bending plot of the Metal Gear franchise.
Oh yeah, and we pimp our upcoming Dualshock 3 feature for Kombo. We’re not saying that you’re not a true fan if you don’t read it, but…well, I don’t know what else to say.

Frack! Did you know that Gaius Baltar listens to Play it Loud while getting it on with Number Six? PIL: 8% Fresh
Ahoy!
In a long tradition of not going by our own plans, what was supposed to be a brief, one-segment show turns into a 90-minute extravaganza. That means more awesome material for the fans! Or…maybe just…more footage of us talking.
Proving that you really can keep on beating a horse well after it’s dead, we have even more gushing praise for Virtua Fighter 5, a game that’s been out for more than a year. We also get into some obligatory Lost talk, Nikolai explains how he turned a pyramid scheme into a method for getting free, Eastern European shooters, Anthony critiques the terrible accents on Showtime’s “Brotherhood”, and we bring it all home by finding common ground with our audience: we didn’t buy Smash Brothers.

PIL: Dolemite
In true P-Lo form, we kick off this week’s show with a discussion of “Dolemite”, a brilliant piece of 70s cinema that you should all go see. That is, unless you’re a no-business, born insecure, jock-jawed muthaf@#$%a!
From there, we go on a “lively” discussion of the “megaton” GDC that totally didn’t “suck”. But, fortunately, some good news did come out of it, not the least of which being APB, the next unbelievable game from David Jones that will totally rock everyone’s junk.
And, confirmed after we finished recording, the director’s cut of Persona 3 gets a US release…so anyone sick and tired of us bringing up MegaTen games may as well just stop listening to the show for the next several months.
